Gretsch Country Gent 76

1976 Gretsch Country Gent

You gotta love this vintage Chet Atkins it feels so right!

The Gretsch Country Gent (model 7670, if we’re being formal) is a highly addictive guitar and incredibly difficult to put it down.

Like a luxurious old Cadillac, this guitar oozes big, rounded, ostentatious goodness.

It feels heavy on your knee, (it’s bigger and heavier than the equivalent Gibson 335) yet it’s beautifully balanced.

The neck is a slightly flattened C profile and boasts a 22 fret ebony fingerboard. It’s powerful like a big block V8 but you have a smooth knurled metal master volume control to tame it.

1976 Gretsch Country Gent Description

This guitar is all about the American Dream – oh, and it plays like a dream, too.

Everything on this Country Gent is original, even the case and that oh so desirable signature Chet Atkins pickguard. There’s some oxidisation to the tuner buttons, but no metal corrosion anywhere else. Lovely vintage finish crackles all over, especially on the headstock, lend this guitar a serious dignified elder statesman air. If this guitar was a country gentleman rather than just being called a Country Gentleman, I’d like to think it would be Ted Kennedy.

The guitar arrived safely. I’ve only played with it for a bit, but my first impression is that it’s the most beautiful guitar I’ve ever played. Looks, tone, feel. Yeah, it sounds like golden sunshine, especially those high notes. In fact it sounds like a record! I think I found MY perfect guitar.
