1966 Gibson Trini Lopez
Stylish 60’s Red Trini Lopez w Bigsby
This stylish 335 based guitar has found new favour in recent years with contemporary artists such as Dave Grohl of The Foo Fighters (who has a signature Gibson Custom Shop model of his own modelled after the Trini Lopez) and ‘Brit-Pop’ icon Noel Gallagher of Oasis who used a TL fitted with a Bigsby Vibrato. Exactly like the one we have here at JGG.
Latin pop star Trini (Trinidad) Lopez was at the height of his musical popularity in the early part of the 1960’s and this brought him the attention of Gibson guitars who subsequently released their ‘Trini Lopez Signature Model’ in 1964.
On both of his eventual models, (the Standard and the Deluxe) Lopez specified a headstock with six-on-a-side tuner configuration, a preference that he developed playing Fenders in his early years in Dallas.

The neck was similar to the “reverse” style Gibson Firebird with split diamond inlays and with all 6 tuners in line on the lower edge of the headstock.
The Deluxe Gibson Trini Lopez was a full depth hollow body electric guitar with some unique cosmetic features including a double cutaway body, pointed horns and diamond shaped f-holes and pick guard. It also had a trapeze tailpiece and a sunburst finish. The standard proved to be far popular however, based on the winning ES-335. Only the headstock and f holes differ from the traditional ES-335
This example is a Trini Lopez Standard which has had a Bigsby vibrato added (way cooler than the original trapeze in our opinion) and has the Trini Lopez name badge moved to the truss rod cover.
