Gibson ES-347 Description
The Gibson ES-347 is one of a number of guitars that the company built as variations on their famous thinline ES-335 model (as favoured by legendary guitarists like Larry Carlton, Robben Ford and Eric Clapton amongst many others)
The ES347 was built in relatively small numbers between 1978 and 1993 and is rapidly becoming a very collectable guitar as a result. Collectability aside, this guitar just grabs your attention the moment you pick it up and the build quality and workmanship are simply outstanding. Featuring a solid Honduras mahogany neck and an arched maple top, back, and sides, this is Gibson guitar building at its very best.
In terms of design, The ES-347 shares the same center-block construction employed on the ES-335, which makes a marked difference in overall sustain and feedback control. If you like players like Carlton and Ford you will be in sonic heaven within seconds of plugging in this guitar. Equally if you want Cream-era Clapton or Eric Johnson tones, they are all here in abundance.
Like its other thinline Gibson brothers, (notably the ES-345 and ES-355) the ES-347 has a good number of high quality features like a solid ebony fingerboard, all-gold hardware and a multi-bound headstock. The guitar just looks stunning the moment you open the case. The double cutaway gives you easy access and fingering throughout the length of the neck and the innovative TP-6 bridge is a very useful addition for those moments when you just need to fine-tune your strings in between songs.
Gibson ES-347 Details
Sonically, this guitar covers a lot of territory and is one of the most versatile thinline Gibsons you could get your hands on, You’ll immediately here why these guitars became popular in the session guitar world and with gigging musicians who needed a lot of tonal variety from one single instrument. Everything from articulate, clean toned jazz runs and chord melodies to screaming rock and blues tones are immediately at your fingertips.
The Series 7 pickups (later renamed ‘Dirty Fingers’) are powerful humbuckers but with equally strong single coil tones accessed via the cutaway mounted coil-tap switch. This offers you the opportunity to get single coil guitar tones at the flick of a switch and combined with the regular three-way pickup selector switch you have a vast array of great guitar tones readily to hand.
This guitar is in excellent condition throughout and is offered with a fitted and lined Gibson case. ES-347 guitars are highly desirable both for collectors and players alike and there are few thinlines that can match its sonic versatility and sheer playability. A simply outstanding guitar, with classic tones to match every conceivable style of music. If versatility and playability are essential for you, then you have finally found the guitar of your dreams.
