Description

Sublimely luscious, gorgeously proportioned, sexily vintage, wonderfully curvy – and that’s just looking at the pictures! This surely, is the epitome of the vintage Gibson guitar. It’s a Gibson ES-175D, probably the most desirable and iconic hollow body Gibson ever made. The Florentine cutaway and “T” shaped tailpiece with zig-zag piping are the unmistakable signatures of the ES175 guitar. The split parallelogram neck inlays, slightly Art Deco headstockcrown inlay and individual Kluson DeLuxe tulip tuners confirm that this is a professional’s instrument.

The versatile twin humbucking pickups over its compact hollowbody define a sound loved and respected by great players and fans for more than half a century, from Joe Pass to Pat Metheny, John Fogerty to Steve Howe.

Amongst 175s, you couldn’t wish for anything more than the guitar you are now looking at.

This guitar is from the very end of Gibson’s “Golden Era”, so it’s the youngest of the “good old ‘uns”. You aren’t paying silly money for pickups with Patent Applied For (PAF) stickers. It’s faded just enough to take the brashness out of the original cherry sunburst, but not so much that you lose the shading effect – it’s such a great mellow colour, that totally suits the guitar. It has a rosewood bridge which gives a warm mellow sound (it’s OK if you prefer the edginess of a metal / ABR-1 bridge, you can fit one of those without compromising the guitar at all, just keep hold of the wooden one.) It plays and sounds exactly the way it should – a lot like double cream – rich all the way from top to bottom. The difference this guitar makes to your playing and sound is simply incredible.

And of course, it’s totally original, there’s no significant damage apart from a tiny ding on the back near the tail and some minor wear on the back of the neck. But there is some lovely age cracking in the finish, which you can see in some of the pics, and helps give it that incredible vintage vibe.

The guitar arrived safely this afternoon.....an absolute beauty. It has that lovely matured and well played look and feel to it. I have nothing that plays and sounds quite like this one. The sound just seems to flow effortlessly. A real pleasure to play. Lovely.
