1977 Fender Musicmaster Bass

If short scale basses are your ‘thang’…read on..

This 30” short scale bass not only produces articulate sounds but is immensely comfortable to play.

The body contours and light weight work a charm whether you’re casually playing with it on your lap or standing on stage until the cows come home.

In actual fact, if you close your eyes and applied a bit of imagination it doesn’t feel too dissimilar to holding a Strat, and the 30” scale length makes it ideal for those of us who have a shorter reach.

Musicmasters are also noteworthy in their durability. Being light weight and very reliable sound-wise, many have chosen this as a faithful bass for gigging and was build to withstand being chucked in and out of vans (and dropped down flights of stairs by hapless drummers.)

Fender Musicmaster Bass Description

This 30” short scale bass not only produces articulate sounds but is immensely comfortable to play. The body contours and light weight work a charm whether you’re casually playing with it on your lap or standing on stage until the cows come home. In actual fact, if you close your eyes and applied a bit of imagination it doesn’t feel too dissimilar to holding a Strat, and the 30” scale length makes it ideal for those of us who have a shorter reach.

Musicmasters are also noteworthy in their durability. Being light weight and very reliable sound-wise, many have chosen this as a faithful bass for gigging and was build to withstand being chucked in and out of vans (and dropped down flights of stairs by hapless drummers.) This cherry red number is a perfect example… it’s clearly seen a lot of action in its 30+ years! The adjustable saddles and some of the pick guard screws have rusted with age, and the finger rest has gone AWOL.

There is some heavy wear to the body around the sides and back, including where the finish has worn down to the poplar underneath at the waist. The tell-tale signs of its happily active life are, of course, all cosmetic, and despite these war wounds it still sounds as potent as when it rolled out of the US factory.

The poplar grain is visible through the cherry finish, making the whole top look like a toffee apple – we can‘t guarantee that some of the player wear isn‘t teeth marks. This Fender Musicmaster has been a reliable friend to someone for many years, and now it’s your turn to own her for decades to come. It will be shipped to you in its original case too, which is charmingly tatty (A small section has worn through from the strap button of the bass, but sturdy as a whole).

The guitar arrived safely. I’ve only played with it for a bit, but my first impression is that it’s the most beautiful guitar I’ve ever played. Looks, tone, feel. Yeah, it sounds like golden sunshine, especially those high notes. In fact it sounds like a record! I think I found MY perfect guitar.
