Description
No air leaks out of these f-holes to cause feedback – they’re painted on!

Chet Atkins was a demon for getting ‘the sound’ and that’s why he demanded the f-holes be painted-on for his top of the range model. He also wanted a block to improve sustain and the Country Gent has a solid block running partially through the guitar. This adds weight, improves the balance and helps add to that very distinctive Gretsch sound. The FilterTron pickups are the other vital ingredient of course and there’s something unmistakable about the sound.

It’s said of these top of the range models that if a player got bored on stage, at least he had plenty of knobs to twiddle. The other story is that someone ordered far too many switches so they added a few extra to each guitar! Here you have a pick-up selector and a tone switch on top and a kill switch on the bottom. Also master volume, independent volumes and a mute. If that’s not enough you can also pull on the Bigsby for a beat or two.

This guitar was one of the last 6122s before they became Baldwin designated 7670s and has all the good features including the ebony fingerboard.

Gretsch bindings are prone to deterioration and this has happened in places (see pictures) thankfully only on the back bindings. There is a piece missing from the pickguard and a stress crack under the screw. The screws holding the rear access panel aren’t original, but everything else on this guitar is, including the well worn Gretsch hard case.

Did you know George Harrison played one?
