Description

This is an immensely fun jazz guitar and very easy to unwind with. It’s the type of guitar you can comfortably sit with on your lap and get lost playing for hours (which I did!) - there’s just something about the feel of this Gretsch which hooks you from the off.

It’s a real strummer and would find a lot of love in the hands of a jazz player - it also comes into its own for those who want to get down to some speedy finger picking (one feature is the Gretsch “space control” roller bridge, a then-unique design which allows you to set the spacing of the strings for varying styles of play.) The neck feels good too – this guitar’s from the Gretsch golden era and although it’s a modest instrument it was made and finished as well as their top models.

When playing acoustically you’ll be impressed by the rich tones at the low end. Plugged in, the HiLo ’Tron pickup delivers everything nice and clear (whack it through a decent tube amp and the clarity is even more noticeable) once again making this vintage Gretsch 6124 a faithful jazz/country guitar at a very agreeable price.

The 6124 anniversary model was discontinued in 1975 following the downward slide in quality during the Baldwin-era of Gretsch’s history. The popularity of these earlier and better built models has never waned, and when you jam on this 1960 vintage you can see exactly why.

It has lost its pickguard (it was probably removed by a previous owner) and it has picked-up a fair amount of player wear which is shown in the pics. Overall though, it’s a completely honest, original vintage Gretsch that will arrive at your door in its original sparkly-green covered wooden hard case.
