Description

It’s not often I start off a description with the words “what’s irritating about this 330 is…” but in this case I’m going to, so here goes….

What’s irritating about this 1967 (or late 66) vintage Gibson ES-330 is it sounds ever so slightly better than my 65 330, and being stunning cherry red one could say it looks better too. Bah humbug!

Love them or love them, 330s and Epiphone Casinos just have the coolest sound. With both pickups on and a clean channel you get an instant Brit Pop tone – perfect for Beatles and classic songs. Add a little amp overdrive and switch to the bridge pickup and it’s the Keith Richards tone.

If you’re into jazz then the neck pickup is lovely and warm – the P-90 and the hollow body give a very warm slightly woody sound favouring the mid-range tones. Emily Remler was a big fan of these guitars and hers was a terrific sound. Of course, the 330 is the same guitar as the Epi Casino, so if you are into Beatles style or any Brit Pop particularly rhythmn playing, you are going to love the way this guitar sounds and performs. I know I do!

There’s some fret wear (although plenty of life remaining in them) and light player wear. The gold knobs are replacements and the hardcase is not the original, but everything else is and there are no breaks or repairs. This is a good, honest guitar that’s going to make someone very happy indeed.
