Description

There’s plenty of good honest wear including some belt buckle marks and wear under the headstock where it was kept on a guitar hanger. There’s some binding deterioration (just something that happens to Gretsches), and a replacement pick guard.

Anniversaries were usually single pickup guitars; it’s the double pickup which makes this an especially interesting item. Although the nameplate says Streamliner, this is actually a Gretsch Double Anniversary 6117, but with a Streamliner name plaque – making it a real steal for this price! The serial number dates the guitar as 1968, Streamliners were only made until ’58.

An interesting factoid is that it’s exactly the same body and neck as the famous 6120 Chet Atkins, but at a fraction of the price – then and now. Of course it doesn’t have the fancy hardware but it also doesn’t have the fancy price.

Anyway, you get two single coil pick-ups and a 24½” scale length guaranteed to help you make an authentic rock ‘n’ roll sound should you require, and a very convincing vintage Gretsch tone at all other times.

This guitar is not a Streamliner, it's a sunburst Double Anniversay with the wrong name plate. It's certainly true that Gretsch made single pick up Streamliners up to 1957. However, after Baldwin took over Gretsch in 1967, they re-issued the Streamliner as a double cutaway, two pick up guitar fitted with Supertron humbuckers - the pick ups on your guitar are single coil Hilotrons, which were fitted to the Anniversay from inception. Don't worry though - anyone who has taken the smallest amount of trouble to research Gretsch guitars will know all this - the Gretsch Book by Tony Bacon, Balafon Books is a good place to start.

Thanks Roger, that confirms what I thought - it is a Double Anniversary then, with a Streamliner nameplate.
