66 Gibson ES-125 CD
Description
It may look like a 175, but it's actually a very rare 125, first year of production, all original and in the coolest faded sunburst (like a light iced tea burst).
Make no mistake, this is a solid investment piece. The 125 CD (cutaway double pickup) was made only in very small numbers from 1966 to 1970. Gibson pulled it from the range because it was virtually a 175 but at a lower cost. Indeed it sounds just like a 50s ES-175 with its P-90 pickups.
This guitar has some wonderful features. Check out the pickguard. That’s called firestripe tortoiseshell, and yes, you guessed it, firestripe tortoise is rare stuff. It’s marked 2 on the back of the headstock, meaning it was originally sold as with some surface blemish (often to Gibson employees of course!) Now it's got just the right amount of finish checking to give it a true vintage feel. The metal bridge compliments the warm P-90 pickups giving a well balanced tone that's not stuck in the '50s.
Everything on this guitar is original and it has no buckle marks on the back, no dings, no wear on the neck and no wear on the frets which stand tall and proud as they must have done when it was first finished. Indeed, a truly choice collector’s piece.
