62 Gretsch Corsair 6014
Description
The Gretsch 6014 Corsair is a name-evolved Gretsch Synchromatic 100. Corsairs were very popular in the late fifties, featured by artists such as Jimmy Rogers.
The cutaway is a feature introduced in 1959 and the model was discontinued in 1960, so this example is one of the last 6014 Corsairs made. The serial number is 510xx though, which would indicate late 1962 early 63. So "early 60s" for sure.
When you play it you start to understand why Freddie Green used to play a Gretsch acoustic archtop with the Count Basie orchestra (as a Gretsch endorser, he played the fancier 18” Eldorado model).
This guitar has a very “alive” top which probably explains how it produces such a beautiful tone and all round fabulous sound. At JGG we don’t believe all vintage guitars are good, and with acoustics you have to be especially careful to choose a guitar with a great sound. And that’s why we are offering this Corsair – it sounds great!
Obviously, you cant hear / feel how good it is on the website, so in this case we are happy to ship the guitar to a prospective buyer on the basis that if you are aren’t delighted you can send it back to us for a full refund – with the shipping in the UK at our cost.
