76 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe
Description
A mahogany body with the wine red finish is such a great combination, mahagony being naturally red, and when you see it set off with the cream bindings, pickguard p/u and switch surrounds, you know this is a class act.
Mini-humbuckers are the key feature of the Deluxe. They have a sound which is tighter and crunchier than the regular pickups of the Les Paul. This is such a cool guitar, especially in the wine red colour with cream guard and pickup surrounds.
This one, like those favoured by Pete Townsend, has the more desirable two piece body (much better sustain than the four piece pancake body of earlier years.)
There's neck wear both on the top and bottom of the neck - see pics. and some dings on the bottom edge near the input jack. The pick-up selector switch is a bit loose in the mid position. We haven't replaced it as it's original and works fine.
The fingerboard is rosewood and it's fast - probably the reason for all that sliding up and down the neck. John Etheridge played it recently and declared its neck to be pretty damn fast and John is probably one of the fastest players around today. It also sounded great in his hands, with that crunchy sound adding a real edge to the fusion lines he was playing. You can hear that sound here.
The later hard case is not original, but in this case (ouch!) it's far better.
