Description
The strikingly beautiful Hummingbird has always been a top-notch handmade Gibson model, and selling for $250 at its launch in 1960, was a whopping $100 more expensive than the J-45. It’s still made today of course, but it’s only the guitars made during the first 8 years of production that are truly desirable guitars as Gibson changed to a heavier bracing in ’69 which deadened the tone. So, this is one of the last of the good ‘uns.

The tone of this guitar is best described as refined and velvety; it’s definitely a class act and perfect for voice accompaniment. It’s very versatile and really easy playing, whether it be strummed, picked or plucked.

The Hummingbird is equally loved by blues, country, folk and rock players including Marc Bolan, Sheryl Crow, John McLaughlin, Jimmy Page and of course, Keith Richards.
Condition
Our bird shows every sign of having been played during its 40 years. There is pick wear on the upper bout and the hummingbird on the pickguard has almost worn away. The first three fretwires aren’t in great shape, and some people would want to do a refret. We haven’t because it plays just fine and would detract from what is otherwise a 100% original and genuine guitar. But if you want it done, we'll do it for you. There are various other marks and dings - all shown in the pictures.

If you are a player and you are considering a Hummingbird, then this guitar represents excellent value for money and is a real joy to hold and play.
