68 Gretsch Streamliner
Description
There’s plenty of good honest wear including some belt buckle marks and wear under the headstock where it was kept on a guitar hanger. There’s some binding deterioration (just something that happens to Gretsches), and a replacement pick guard.
Streamliners (and Anniversaries) were usually single pickup guitars; it’s the double pickup which would make this an especially interesting item. On the other hand, it could actually be a Double Anniversary 6117, but with a Streamliner name plaque – in which case, it’s a real steal for this price! This seems the most likely, as the serial number dates the guitar as 1968, the right time period for the pickups. Streamliners were only made until ’58.
An interesting factoid is that it’s exactly the same body and neck as the famous 6120 Chet Atkins, but at a fraction of the price – then and now. Of course it doesn’t have the fancy hardware but it also doesn’t have the fancy price.
Anyway, you get two single coil pick-ups and a 24½” scale length guaranteed to help you make an authentic rock ‘n’ roll sound should you require, and a very convincing vintage Gretsch tone at all other times.
